Welcome to the Midwest Hernia Center

At Midwest Hernia Center, we believe each hernia is as unique as every human being. That’s why we tailor our treatments to the personal needs of each patient. Unlike less advanced hernia clinics, we take a dynamic approach by selecting the best method for each person which incorporates the latest advances in hernia surgery in order to minimize discomfort and shorten recovery time.

This approach was originally developed under the direction of the renowned surgeon, Dr. David R. Joesting, Founder Emeritus, who consulted with the top medical minds on the continent and abroad as he pioneered the best treatments for hernias. Today six surgeons continue his legacy of providing the safest, most compassionate and successful hernia surgery possible.

To remain at the forefront of hernia expertise, our physicians and surgical staff continuously train in the newest techniques using the most advanced repair materials. Our patients have confirmed our success by awarding us high satisfaction scores.

Because we are exceptionally good at what we do, not only is Midwest Hernia Center the largest hernia specialty practice in the Twin Cities, it has become internationally famous, and patients regularly travel here from around the world for surgical care.

Our staff is adept at helping national and international patients to feel comfortable, and we provide accommodation planning services that make a trip here for hernia surgery simple to arrange. Our mission reflects our surgeons’ dedication to insuring that our patients receive the best care possible, no matter where they come from.

Our Mission: To provide safe, effective, patient-centered hernia repair through the use of proven technology and appropriate surgical techniques, resulting in minimal discomfort and a rapid return to normal activity.

Our ultimate goal is to make our patients’ lives better. We are grateful that so many continue to give us that opportunity.

A hernia happens when a weakness or a tear in the wall of the abdomen allows an organ to protrude. View our hernia animation to learn more.
